In this post i will be talking about the title sequence for the film '1408'
-0-14 seconds - Film opens with the film production logo with a dark background, and the opens with a dark screen and non diagetic sounds to connote a horror film and evil.
-
At 28 seconds we get our first shot, it is a sort of establishing shot with and extreme long shot to show the whole road and what surrounds it. it shows it is deserted, surrounded by streets and low key lighting due to a building on the side of the road, it is a stereo typical location of an horror film; pathetic fallacy, the weather represents the mood of the whole piece, and it is raining alot.
-
30 seconds - the name of the first actor appears whilst a car is coming closer to the camera.
-31 seconds, the camera pans across in line with the front of the vehicle coming its way.
-33 seconds, the next actor appears, same shot.
-40 seconds, the car stops and then the title appears, very bright and white and seems very ghostly, connotes horror and death, very scary.
-43 seconds, the shot changes to a very high angle shot and the car starts reversing, it seems that he is lost and very vulnerable.
-48 seconds, diagetic sounds coming from the radio, saying 'open the gates of hell' connotes evil, and actors still coming up on the screen.
-56 seconds, POV (point of view shot), he has stopped and shines the torch onto a sign that tells him he is leaving that area once passed, and on the sign it says please come back, almost to say if you stay here you will be safe.
-1min, 2 secs, Mid-shot of him using a map to show he is lost, and trying to find out where he is, seems very lonely and isolated, credits still appearing.
-1 min, 9 seconds, close-up of tyre as if something is going to happen the car like it will get stuck or the tyre would get a puncture.
-1min, 15 seconds, shot fades into another shot, credits still coming up, the car pulls up to the house, low key lighting, very isolated and dark.
-1 min, 25 seconds, on the bridge walking towards the hotel, very slim bridge, and it shows there is only one way in, and one way out, its as if he is moving away from safety, and the only way out.
-1min, 30 seconds, POV shot through a gap in the tree's, sort of as if someone is spying on him, and watching what he is doing, very low key lighting from old fashioned street lights.
-1 min, 35 seconds, mise-en-scene changes, the whole lighting changes, becomes quite bright, it is an old house, calming colours on the walls, its a dramatic change, and there is a POV shot from a person behind the check-in desk, shows what he can see when the man walks through the door.
- 1 min, 52 seconds, shot cuts to the owners, they are an old couple very welcoming and friendly, so releases the tension a bit, and it has a bit of comedy in it to help release the tention, they act strangely as if to say they dont have many customers, makes the audience think he is safe.
-2 mins, mid close up wehn the man says ''the house is haunted'' so it shows to the audience that the rest of the film is going to be scary
